Mantel and Table Clocks
Initially, mantel and table clocks were the reduced copies of portable long-case ones. However, development of artisanship resulted in appearance of more ingenious and complicated constructions. The case décor met the fashion trends of the epoch. Starting from mid-19th century, mantel and table clocks designed as miniature buildings crowned with a dome or a bell tower were more and more popular. Clock's facades and plinths were ornated with carving, dainty figures or plastic groups. Table and mantel clocks often served as presentation gifts and were symbols of their owners’ status.
