The automaton, fashioned as a slender Moorish girl, is mounted on a tall wooden Moorish-style stool featuring a hexagonal seat with a cushion and raised on legs. When the mechanism is switched on, music plays: the girl's head smoothly turns from side to side and moves up and down, her eyelids lower and rise, and her hands, with fingers positioned to pluck the strings, move toward the harp and along the strings. The winding key is in the set.
