The automaton, fashioned as a smoking gentleman, is mounted on rectangular wooden base with rounded corners; its top panel is covered in embossed red velvet, while the side panels are finished in burgundy velvet and decorated with braided trim along the upper and lower edges. When the mechanism is wound and switched on, a melody plays: the smoker raises his right hand with a cigarette holder, brings it to his mouth as if taking a puff, raises his head, blows smoke, and then lowers and turns his head from side to side. Simultaneously, his left hand moves slightly up and down. All actions repeat to the musical accompaniment.
