«Girl with apples» combines a genre motif with the elegance of chryselephantine cabinet sculpture. A young woman in a long, softly falling dress examines a piece of fruit, while a bowl of apples turns the simple gesture into a clearly readable narrative episode. Partly gilt bronze renders the folds of the clothing in broad, flowing masses; the ivory face, neck, and hands are more finely worked and have a pale, smooth surface. The contrast of materials gives the small statuette chromatic expressiveness without excessive variegation. The green onyx base provides a concise finish and sets off the warm tone of the metal.
