The gold snuffbox, rectangular in shape, with rounded corners, with a hinged lid. The lid is decorated with a diamond-inlaid letter "N" beneath a crown – the monogram of Napoleon III – set against a translucent bright blue guilloché enamel ground. Four large diamonds in decorative silver rosettes are positioned at the corners of the lid. The sides and base of the snuffbox are decorated with an arabesque pattern executed in the champlevé enamel technique.
