The inner surface features the maker's mark "C.C.S." inside a rhombus and three other partially rubbed, illegible hallmarks
The gold snuffbox is cartouche-shaped with a hinged lid. The lid is adorned with an oval medallion featuring the monogram "P II" of Emperor Pedro II of Brazil, surmounted by a crown and framed with diamonds. The body of the snuffbox is decorated with carved gold flowers and scrolls, as well as engraved rocaille-style patterns.
