Patinated bronze pair of single-candlesticks in the shape of tree trunks with roots with candle cups in the upper parts. Figurines of lying wolf (one candlestick) and she-wolf (the other) are anigh both trunks. The trees bark and wolf’s skin are distinguished by detailed finishing.
The candlesticks are created following the model of the prominent Russian sculptor-animalist Nikolay Lieberich (1828-1883), who created a significant number of cabinet bronze sculptures by order of bronze manufacturer Alexander Sokolov in the 1960s. Those items - candlesticks, paperweights and inkwells were decorated with animalistic images. Several items decorated with the figurines of wolves cast at the Sokolov factory, were exhibited at the Paris World Exhibition in 1867. In the late XIX - early XX centuries. Similar candlesticks were replicated at the Saint Petersburg Woerffel bronze and lapidary art factory- one of the largest factories of the time.
