New thematic exhibition "Oriental Calendar. Symbols of the Year"

On the eve of the New year 2024, the museum Collection presents new thematic exhibition "Oriental Calendar. Symbols of the Year". This project is dedicated to the phenomenon that unites all world cultures -- the New Year, as well as its symbolic embodiment in art.

The exhibition features items from the section "Lapidary and Bone-carving Art" section of the museum Collection and the best works of the participants that the National Museum of Fine Arts of Taiwan has been organising annually for almost 40 years.

The contest is based on the image of an animal symbolising the coming year according to the Oriental Calendar.  The competition involves artists working in various techniques of printed graphics: xylography, calligraphic etching, silkscreen printing, intaglio; works made with the use of modern digital technologies are also accepted. There are no restrictions on the age of the contest participants: both very young artists and established masters take part in the contest. The competition takes place on the eve of the Oriental New Year and culminates in a large exhibition at the National Museum of Fine Arts of Taiwan.

Curators of the exhibition:
Andrey Martynov, gallerist, collector
