Leonid Vladimirovich Pozen was born on March 10, 1849. He did not receive academic art education. Studied sculpture individually. At first, he copied plaster figurines of different politicians, using as templates for copying the works of contemporary sculptors. Then he began to sculpt small portraits of friends and relatives from nature, and tried to make complex compositions.

Leonid Posen repeatedly presented his sculptural compositions at the exhibitions that we initiated by the Traveling Art Exhibitions Partnership. His works was a great success. As a regular participant in the exhibitions of the Partnership until 1918, the sculptor demonstrated over 50 works. He was the first of the sculptors who joined the Partnership.
Pozen participated in art exhibitions abroad as well, in Italy, England, Germany, Holland and America.
Leonid Pozen was known for his small statuary genre compositions narrating about the everyday life and history of the Ukrainian people: "Kobzar" (1883), "Migrants" (1884), "The Beggar" (1886), "Cossack on Reconnaissance " (1887), "Scythian" (1889), "Plowing in Ukraine" (1897), etc.
