The
automaton is mounted on flat rectangular wooden stand painted with glossy black
varnish and glued over with brown velvet edged with golden braid. Simple wooden
chair is fixed on the stand; the acrobat in clown outfit is performing a
handstand. The spaces between the legs of the chair are covered with brown
velvet panelling. The start button for the automaton mechanism and a keyhole
are on the right-hand panel. The mechanism is placed under the chair. The clown
is wearing clothes made of fabric with stripes of red, navy, blue and white
colours. The shirt, with exaggeratedly large buff sleeves and long hem trimmed
with gold braid, is belted with woven goldish belt. Light brown leather shoes
and sand-coloured knitted stockings are on his feet. The porcelain head is
wearing a three-horned clown hat with is on porcelain head with blond curly
hair wig. The face with brown moving glass eyes, with painted eyebrows,
eyelashes, smiling mouth and highlighted wrinkles. In the initial state, the
acrobat's body takes a horizontal position. The left hand rests on the back of
the chair; the right hand is on the seat. When the mechanism is switched on,
the figure comes into motion. The legs rise up, the left arm comes off the back
of the chair, the figure, balancing on the right arm, turns to the left, the head turns to left as well. Then the left
arm returns to the chair back, the head is turned to the right, and the legs
are lowered. The figure assumes the initial position. The cycle is then
repeated. All actions are accompanied by the sounds of musical movement with pinned
wooden barrel and sound comb. Winding key is in the set.
