The sculpture depicts a girl wrapped in a long robe. Particular attention is drawn to its finish: soft folds emphasize the plasticity and shimmer of the gilt bronze. The face and hands, made of pale ivory, contrast with the warm tone of the metal. The restraint of the pose and richness of the finish create an expressive combination of simplicity and refinement. The treatment of an everyday subject in such an elegant manner is characteristic of European chryselephantine sculpture of the first decades of the 20th century.
