“Seduction” depicts a carnival couple in richly decorated theatrical costumes. Their gestures and the way the figures turn toward one another convey the character of the scene being enacted between them. The folds of the clothing, headdresses and numerous accessories are carefully worked and enhance the decorative quality of the composition. Three tones of patina—green, gold and silver—pick out individual details of the bronze, while the pale ivory of the faces and exposed parts of the bodies creates a striking color contrast. The sea-green marble base is decorated with musical attributes, ribbons, laurel branches and masks and forms an important part of the sculpture’s decorative design.
