“Oriental Dancer” is shown in a richly decorated stage costume whose long draperies emphasize the movement of the figure. The turn of the torso and the free gesture of the arms lend the pose lightness and expressiveness. Gilt bronze is used for the costume and ornaments, while the face and exposed parts of the body are made of pale ivory with a smooth, carefully finished surface. This combination of materials is characteristic of chryselephantine sculpture of the first decades of the 20th century. The marble base provides a restrained support for the richly decorated figure.
