The female fencer is shown in a long draped cloak, from beneath which the exposed parts of the body in pale ivory are visible. She holds a slender weapon, making the sporting subject recognizable, although the overall character of the statuette remains more decorative than narrative. The bronze fabric is gathered into broad diagonal folds that wrap around the torso and give the surface a lively relief. The combination of bronze and ivory is characteristic of chryselephantine sculpture of the first decades of the 20th century, when modern or unusual female types often became subjects in their own right. The light geometric onyx base emphasizes the vertical structure of the work and sets off the warm tone of the metal.
