The dancer with cymbals is shown in energetic movement, balanced on one leg. The open gesture of the arms holding the musical instruments and the fluttering details of the costume give the statuette a festive theatrical character. Gilt bronze forms the costume, while pale carved ivory is used for the exposed parts of the body; this combination of materials is especially characteristic of Art Deco chryselephantine sculpture. The ochre marble base introduces a warm stone tone and emphasizes the verticality of the figure. Lucien Alliot studied under Louis-Ernest Barrias and Jules-Félix Coutan and repeatedly exhibited his works at the Paris Salons, linking his decorative sculpture to the academic sculptural tradition.
