In this sculptural composition, a nude girl carved from white marble turns toward a greyhound that has brought its muzzle close to her shoulder. The small narrative is built on the direct interaction between human and animal: the smooth turn of the seated figure answers the elongated form of the dog. The contrast of materials plays an important role in the group’s appearance. Polished white marble conveys the softness of the human body, while dark patinated bronze makes the slender silhouette of the greyhound more graphic. A coloured marble base with rounded corners unites the two figures and introduces the natural pattern of the stone. The combination of generalized forms and contrasting textures brings the work close to early-20th-century decorative sculpture.
