"Spanish dancer" is treated as a vivid theatrical image. The exposed upper body and ornate dress give the statuette an emphatically stage-like character, while the castanets placed on the base clarify the Spanish motif. Bronze with golden patination forms the richly toned clothing, against which the finely carved ivory of the head, arms, and exposed torso stands out. The combination of a striking pose, an exoticized subject, and contrasting materials is characteristic of chryselephantine sculpture popular in the Art Deco period. The round base gives the small work a clear and stable finish.
