The Russian Dancer is shown in a sweeping movement characteristic of stage dance. The raised arm establishes the principal direction of the statuette, while the curve of the torso and lifted leg break the strict vertical and lend the pose a sense of inner tension. Gilding brings out the relief of the surface and gives the metal a warm tone, against which the smooth, pale ivory is particularly distinct. The tall rectangular marble pedestal supports the slender proportions of the work. The Russian Dancer model enjoyed particular popularity and was produced in different sizes and combinations of materials.
