Dancer
France, Paris
1920–1930
Bronze, ivory, marble, onyx; casting, ivory carving, patination, gilding, silvering
Signature: “C.J.R. Colinet”
The female dancer is depicted seated, with her arms widely extended and raised. One leg is stretched to the side, while the other is bent and almost hidden beneath the folds of the clothing. The exposed torso and the wide gesture of the arms contrast with the heavy draperies gathered around the lower part of the figure. The light ivory of the face, body, arms, and legs stands out against the dark bronze of the costume. Gilded and silvered details of the necklace, bracelets, and clothing trim emphasize the decorative character of the artwork. The figure is mounted on a massive tiered pedestal with a relief insert on the front side.
