The Valkyrie is depicted riding a galloping horse. The elongated body of the animal, its widely extended legs, and the rider's gesture create an impression of rapid movement. At the same time, the figure of the female rider is clearly legible due to the contrast of materials: the light ivory of the exposed parts of the body stands out against the dark patinated bronze of the horse and the costume. The oblong marble pedestal with an uneven surface resembles a section of a rock and supports the character of the entire composition. According to archival materials, the artwork is also known under the title “Towards the Unknown.” The image of the Valkyrie references the goddesses of vengeance from Norse mythology.
