Lasso thrower
Lasso thrower
France, Paris
1912
Bronze, marble (pedestal); casting, gold patination
Figure: Height 42.5 × Length 45.4 cm; pedestal 5 × 17.5 × 17.5 cm
Signature on the pedestal: “C.J.R. Colinet”
The sculpture depicts a girl preparing to throw a lasso. Her figure is heavily tilted forward with arms extended, and her free leg is stretched backward, making the composition appear driven in a single direction. The long dress does not conceal the motion of the body: its folds and the hem flying back continue the direction of the gesture and make the silhouette more expressive. The golden patina emphasizes the relief of the bronze surface, while the gray marble pedestal creates a stable base for the dynamic figure. A similar model is published in the study by Bryan Catley. Archival materials also mention repetitions from around 1920.
