Signature on the pedestal: “Cl JR. Colinet”
The image of the “Mexican Dancer” is built on a combination of dance movement and an expressive costume. The figure seems fixed at one of the culminating points of the performance. The pose looks collected yet agile, resembling a stage pause between two movements. A special role is played by the outfit—its complex contours, colored trim, and bronze details frame the exposed parts of the body carved from ivory. Colinet contrasts the softer modeling of the face and body with the sharply rendered decor of the clothing. The marble pedestal serves as a understated base for the figure rich in color and detail. According to archival materials, the model was first exhibited in 1925.
