Sculptural composition depicting an elderly, bearded highlander is mounted on oval base with smooth plinth and massive, textured terrain representing uneven ledges of rocky ground. Dressed in cherkeska coat, shaggy sheepskin papakha hat, and boots, with a sheathed rifle slung across his shoulders, he is riding a horse down a mountain slope. In front of him in the saddle, the rider carries a young mountain woman dressed in an elegant short-sleeved gown, a headdress with pendants, and shoes with curled toes. Straddling the horse in the high-pommel saddle, the Circassian woman holds the horse by the reins.
