The sculpture was stored by the daughter of Enrico Caruso for a long time. The sculpture depicts Enrico Caruso as Dick Johnson in the opera “La fanciulla del West” (The Girl of the West) by Giacomo Puccini. The opera premiered on December 10, 1910 at the Metropolitan Opera Theater, New York. Arturo Toscanini conducted it. Caruso performed the role of Dick Johnson alias Ramerres. The sculpture was created at the time when both artists, Caruso as a tenor singer and Troubetzkoy as a sculptor, were at the peak of their careers.
