The exterior panels of the item are decorated with flat, applied tortoiseshell plaques. The tortoiseshell inlays are adorned with delicate depictions of ribbon-tied floral elements executed in the piqué point inlay technique, in which miniature gold pins (dots) are fused into the organic base. On the side walls of the body, the decorative tortoiseshell panels are visually separated by gold pilasters featuring a chased floral ornament against stippled field.
