Rectangular gold snuffbox featuring a hinged lid. The interior surfaces of the body have a mirror polish. The exterior panels of the item are decorated with polychrome enamel miniatures depicting scenes of rural life. The painted inlays are enclosed within shaped, engraved frames adorned with floral motifs against translucent dark blue enamel background. The front rim of the lid is decorated with the cast silver applied mount set with faceted transparent stones.
The interior of the lid features enamel miniature containing a portrait of Louise Henriette de Bourbon-Conti (1726–1759), Duchess of Chartres (by marriage – Duchess of Orléans), depicted as Hebe, the goddess of youth. The portrait is executed after 1732 painted original by Jean-Marc Nattier.
