Rectangular gold case with rounded corners, featuring two hinged lids. The exterior of the upper lid is decorated with the polychrome enamel depiction of a bouquet of flowers against translucent red engine-turned (guilloché) background. This rectangular scene is bordered by a string of blue turquoise cabochons. The bottom surface is adorned with a sunburst engine-turned ornament beneath translucent red enamel, framed by a row of circular turquoise inlays on light blue enamel ground. The side surfaces are decorated with rectangular panels featuring the engraved geometric pattern beneath translucent red enamel.

Beneath the upper lid is a hinged, openwork, gilt-brass grille formed by floral elements, which covers the compartment for smelling salts. Beneath the lower lid is a mechanical automaton. The recessed square panel depicts a sea bay with sailing vessels, houses on the opposite shore, mountains in the distance, and a stone slab in the foreground. At the top of the panel is a small hinged lid covering rectangular aperture. The right side of the panel is concealed by gilded shutter, which, like the small lid, is adorned with the engraved pattern against blue background.

The wide side of the case features two small drawers. The larger drawer contains brass plates engraved with questions. When one of these plates is inserted into the smaller drawer and pushed inside, a small gilded figure of Cupid emerges from behind the shutter, pointing his hand toward the now opened small lid, while the answer appears in the aperture. The flush buttons for operating the automaton are located in the openings on the narrow sides of the case.
