The hallmark of an unidentified master is evidently a later addition, stamped on an authentic 18th-century snuffbox
A rectangular red lacquer snuffbox with a hinged lid. The lacquer panels are set within a gold mount chased with rocaille motifs. Each side of the body, the lid, and the base are inlaid in the Oriental style with compositions depicting figures against landscapes and vedute. The figures and compositional details are carved from shell and mother-of-pearl.
