Circular gold snuffbox with a hinged lid. The body and lid are inlaid with fifty-seven inserts-samples of stones of various Saxon species. Each insert is numbered and corresponded to a booklet once attached to the snuffbox. In the center of the lid is a cameo with a bust image of a young satyr, carved from carnelian.
