The surface of the flat, rectangular case with rounded sides and corners is covered with white transparent (the so-called "oyster") enamel on a guilloché background and decorated with gold onlays, stylized curved branches with cabochon rubies and sapphires onlays. Its bottom part is framed by narrow green gold leaf ornament. The removable smooth tip of the pencil is made of gold. The pencil is enclosed in the authentic box with the inscription on the inner side: "Jосифъ Маршакъ Кiевъ".
