Sewing clamps were made in the form of case with soft cushion, sometimes with a drawer for needles, and with a clip in the form of a bird. Fabric was pinned with needles to sewing clamp with pincushion, sewing bird-shaped clamps securely fixed fabric for manual stitching. Tula steel sewing clamps were expensive, only well-to-do peasant women and wealthy townswomen could afford them.
