Exhibit in detail: earthenware jug featuring bacchanalian procession (video)

Today in our traditional column "Exhibit in Details", we are taking a closer look at the earthenware jug ornamented with relief bacchanalian procession. The dignified figure of Silenus, the mentor of Dionysus, famous for his wisdom, his singing and his fondness for wine is heading the procession. Two satyrs with goat legs are holding up Silenus, while the putti are running about and playing in front of them. The jug handle is shaped like a vine, and its hinged silver lid is crowned with a cluster of ripe berries and broad leaves.
