Announcement: the first lecture of the cycle "Astronomy, time, watchmaking art"

Dear friends, we remind you that museum Collection is launching a new series of lectures “Astronomy, time and watchmaking art”, which will consist of three parts:

Lecture 1. "Astronomy in watchmaking"
Lecture 2. "From gnomon to second-hand"
Lecture 3. "Plasticity of time"

You can enroll for the first lecture of the cycle on the museum website in the "Lecture Course" section.

Astronomical observations are impossible without accurate timing. At the same time, it is impossible to determine precise time without taking into account astronomical aspects. References to the science examining stars can be found in the works of the prominent watchmakers of all times. At the lecture, we will find out what lunar calendars and the zodiacal constellations are and how these concepts were implemented in their works by skilled watchmakers, we will talk about the term "constellation" and how astronomers define it nowadays, and how the stars, planets and the Sun move from the point of view of observers from our planet Earth.
