Musical selection for the 135th birth anniversary of the birth of Nadezhda Obukhova

Nadezhda Obukhova is the Russian, Soviet opera singer (mezzo-soprano). A singer with an amazing voice in terms of timbre. There have always been many mezzo-sopranos, hence the special warm and thick sound tone of Obukhova voice made her stand out of the others. In the 20th century, only the greatest Italian prima Renata Tebaldi had such a timbre.

From the memoirs of the singer E.K. Katulskaya, a contemporary of N. Obukhova: “Each performance with her participation aroused the delight of the audience. Possessing a charming voice, unique in its beauty of timbre, subtle artistic expressiveness, perfect vocal technique and artistry, Nadezhda Andreevna has created a whole gallery of scenic images of profound truth to nature and harmonious perfection. Possessing an amazing ability of artistic transformation, Nadezhda Obukhova was able to find the necessary intonation coloring, subtle nuances for the impressive depiction of a character of a stage image, for expressing various human feelings. The authenticity of her performance had always been combined with the beauty of sound and expressiveness of the word. Deep human feeling and vivid emotionality heated all of her performances. The voice sounded in all registers smoothly, generously and gorgeously. “Velvet” notes of her unique, the “Obukhova” timbre, expressiveness of the word - everything was aimed at revealing the idea of the artistic work, its musical and psychological characteristics.

For the singer's birthday, we have prepared a musical selection of musical works that she performed, recorded from musical media stored in the museum Collection Sound Library. Biography of Nadezhda Obukhova is in the section "Authors".
