August 22 is the birthday of the French composer Claude Debussy

A French composer Claude Debussy is often called the father of the 20th century music. He showed that every sound, chord, tonality can be heard in a new way, can live a freer, more colorful life, as if enjoying its very sound, its gradual, mysterious dissolution in silence. Debussy has a lot in common with pictorial impressionism: the self-sufficient colorfulness of elusive, fluid-moving moments, a love to landscape, the airy trembling of space. It is no coincidence that Debussy is considered the main representative of impressionism in music.

However, he went further from traditional forms than traditional impressionist artists did; his music is much deeper in our century than the paintings of Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir or Camille Pissarro.
