World Circus Day is celebrated on April 21, 2018 (video)

Held on the third Saturday each April, World Circus Day is a special day to celebrate Circus Arts and Culture. The 9th World Circus Day will be held on April 21, 2018.

This holiday was established for those who love circus and have something to do with it. Animal tamers, clowns and mimes, acrobats and balancers, and just those who love this unusual art form, celebrate World Circus Day. This holiday is international and is celebrated all over the world.

World Circus Day is very young holiday – its history dates back to the beginning of the 21st century. In 2002, the European Circus Association was established with the aim of European cultural heritage protection and recognition of the circus as a special form of art. Initiation of the European Circus Day in 2008 was one of its main achievements. The holiday was celebrated on April 19 - the third Saturday of the month. This holiday was established to unite all circus performers, pay tribute to their merits and cultivate love of this art form not only among children, but among adults as well.

International Circus Federation was created the same year. Its headquarters is located in Monte Carlo*. The Federation mission is the development of the classical circus art and its innovative forms. According to the founders of the organization, this combination should raise the circus art to new level and attract even more audience.

In 2010, International Circus Federation concluded that Circus Day should become more extensive and go beyond Europe. More than 25 countries participated in the first International holiday. The Russian State Circus Company** supported this initiative.

Since the holiday is celebrated on a day off, all circuses prepare bright and exciting performances especially for this day. Some circus troupes develop new festive programs, including special acts that the audience did not see before.

The unusual tradition has been originated - to hold Doors Open day, when spectators have the opportunity to see the backstage area and get acquainted with the circus staff and four-legged artists as well. Besides various master classes are organized for the visitors and circus followers.

Circus art always brings a lot of positive, happiness, joy, strong emotions and vivid impressions.

Various exhibits that in one or another way are related to circus art are stored in the Museum "Collection".

You can examine some of them in the collection subsections "Automata”, "Mechanical compositions", "Fair organs" and “Barrel organs”.
