Casket in silver rectangular box, with pale green enamel panels over guilloche field in the form of rays of wavy lines diverging from the panel center, framed in nielled silver with geometric patterns, on four carved ivory supports. Miniature rose shaped nielled silver onlays are on the front panel corners and onlays in the form of daisies are in the corners of side panels. Oval aperture bordered by the embossed frame with twisted pattern and closed by hinged lid with the carved image of a bird sitting in the nest and the second bird on the tree branch of ivory is on the top panel center. The lid inner surface is gilded and mirror-polished.

Guilloche field with the winding hole surrounded by a chain of peas, German sterling silver hallmarks and inscriptions is on the bottom panel. A sliding on/off lever for the bird mechanism with the embossed ivory onlay is on the front side.

When the mechanism is switched on, the lid automatically opens, a miniature bird in painted feathers appears on the openwork gilded lattice; it spins on the spot, flaps its wings, opens and closes its beak, the sound mechanism imitates the bird's chirping. At the end of the programme, the bird hides in the recess in openwork lattice and the lid closes.
The bird driving mechanism is spring-loaded, with a fusee – a system for stabilizing the movement.
