Orchestrion – 215 x 105 x 270 cm; pedestal – 107 x 91 x 45 cm
The basis of the orchestrion is a frame assembled from wooden beams. The frame with the elements and components of the orchestrion is built into a three-tiered oak case. Visually, the façade is divided into three vertical sections. The sections of the lower tier are closed with removable solid panels made in the form of rectangular fillets edged with semicircular layouts. The panels are fixed with metal latches. The middle tier is closed with a single panel with three rectangular faceted glass inserts, locked with a mortise lock. In the centre of each insert is a decorative element in the form of a royal lily, composed of glass elements joined by lead binding. The upper tier features a narrow balcony surrounded by a low, curved parapet with four columns decorated with carved finials. The parapet is complemented by a wide cornice decorated with dentils. The arched panels of the external panels are reinforced with cast sconces with figures of cherubs holding lamps in the form of orange and blue glass flowers. An automaton in the form of a figure of a conductor in a red uniform, holding a baton in his right hand is mounted in the balcony center. Rectangular coin selector with a door, a cover over the coin slot, and a celluloid sign with the terms of use for the orchestrion are on the balcony right side. A low, straight parapet is installed on the case roof. Columns with turned finials are at the corners. In the centre of the parapet is a pediment with two small finials and one large finial. On the tympanum is A carved wooden gilded vase with flowers stands on the tympan. The side panels of the lower tier are removable, fixed with latches. Lateral sides of the upper tiers are closed with doors with mortise locks. The lower tier houses a compressor consisting of injection bellows, an AC electric motor, a belt drive gearbox and a receiver. The compressor creates air pressure for the operation of executive bellows and organ pipes. In the middle tier there is a reader containing sensitive levers, rollers of the belt drive mechanism and an air duct system. The base of the reader is a table with a drive roller and a pressure plate with a pressure roller and a spring lock. A coil with folded cardboard book-music is to the left of the table, a receiving coil is to the right. The cardboard book-music is stretched between the rollers from one coil to the other. A row of levers is under the table, which, getting into the holes of the cardboard book-music, open the valves allowing air to flow to the executive bellows and organ pipes. The air is transmitted through thin lead tubes. Bellows are installed above the table, which set in motion the right arm and head of the figure of the bandmaster. At the rear part of the orchestrion is a piano mechanism with wooden soundboard, a cast-iron frame on which strings are stretched, and a system of hammers operated by executive bellows. The piano's range is 63 notes. An air distributor unit is in the upper right corner, on the front side of which are buttons of register switches and switches for drums and bells. The corresponding labels are placed on the buttons: “Pianoforte Diminuendo", “Dulcimer", “Crescendo", “Drums", “Bells", “Clarinet", “Piccolo", “Violin", “Stops off". An electromagnetic power switch is installed under the unit. Five registers of organ pipes, a register of tubular bells and two drums are in the orchestrion upper tier. Bell hammers and drum beaters are powered by executive bellows. Pivoting wooden shutters, channels that allow you to adjust the sound volume are behind the left side door. The orchestrion set includes two rectangular oak cabinets on straight plinths designed for storing removable folded cardboard book-music. The front side of each cabinet is closed by a door with a mortise lock. The doors are decorated with carved wooden panels depicting vases with flowers. The interior of the cabinets is divided by shelves into five compartments designed for the installation of twenty coils of folded cardboard music-books mounted in carriages and equipped with handles for rewinding. The carriages slide in between the guide rails mounted on the shelves. The set includes five keys to the locks.
