The composition is represented on black wooden oval base. A miniature ship is on the right hand side, a medieval castle and a tower are on the left hand side. As the movement is activated, the sailing-ship starts swaying on the waves, while the soldier on the tower comes into motion. The automaton is covered by glass protecting dome with the painted background is on its inner side.
The movement is fitted inside the base, consists of musical comb and cylinder for one tune.
