Tabletop Palais Royal style necessaire made of rosewood  is shaped as a sea shell. Case is coated with dark lacquer. Hinged top lid is decorated with a shell-shaped mother-of-pearl plaque, engraved along its perimeter with a garland of grapevines, and features depiction of a blooming flower with leaves in the center. Surfaces around the shell, the lid rim, and the bottom edge of the case are decorated with rows of faceted metal studs. Two control buttons for the musical movement and a keyhole for the mortise lid lock, framed by mother-of-pearl overlays, are located on the front side of the case. The right button activates the movement, and the left button switches melodies.
Bottom side of the case is enclosed by wooden panel covered with dark green paper. Under the lid is nested a tray lined with light velvet, featuring eleven fitted compartments for sewing tools:
