Musical porcelain fruit bowl, circular in cross-section, with wavy rim, on a stem with round base. The bowl upper rim and the base lower rim are decorated with goldish rims. The painted portrait of a Swiss boy wearing a green Tyrolean hat is in the vase center. Spring-driven musical mechanism with pinned metal cylinder and steel sound comb with tuned teeth, covered by wooden panel are mounted in the base.
When the mechanism is wound up and the vase is lifted, the musical movement is activated and melodies encoded on the cylinder are played. One of the melodies is the ‘Waltz’ from the opera ‘Faust’ by French composer Charles Gounod (June 17, 1818 – October 18, 1893), written in 1859 and finalised on March 3, 1869. Winding key is in the set.
Music media: pinned metal cylinder.
