Sarcophagus-shaped box inlaid with stylized foliage and chased gilt-metal metal handle and feet, with applied brass plaque engraved “Clarissa Emma Racey”. The interior fitted with a removable velvet covered tray containing sewing and writing implements in gold, silver gilt, engraved mother of pearl and polished steel, and some with black champlevé enamel, the base of the interior fitted with glazed compartment revealing the musical movement, signed “Martinet et Benoit no.3804”.
Movement with brass pinned barrel, steel comb and teeth. The tunes identified by restorer's label: “Waltz de l'oberon de Weber”, “Ditanti Palpiti”, “Tancredi and Toi que L'oiseau”, “Guillaume Tell”.
