The austere classical image of Iphigenia is softened by the thoughtful turn of the head and free stance. A long gilded garment falls in heavy vertical folds, leaving the ivory shoulders and arms exposed. A dark rocky form rises behind the figure, and the contrast of smooth ivory, shimmering bronze and near-black rock gives the composition a dramatic effect.
