Boy putting on a glove
Boy putting on a glove
France, Paris
Early 20th century
Richard Fath, Etling Paris
Bronze, ivory, marble; casting, ivory carving, patination
Height 20 cm
Signature «Fath», mark «Etling Paris»
The figure of a boy pulling on a glove is built around a simple everyday gesture. Heavy winter clothing forms a compact bronze volume against which the pale carved-ivory details stand out. The work formed a pair with another child figure, "Girl opening a handbag"; both bear the Etling Paris mark, and one of the figures is signed Fath. Such small genre works show how early-20th-century Parisian decorative sculpture transformed an everyday scene into a carefully finished interior object.
