The sculpture depicts a girl holding a violin. Her slightly bowed head and calm gesture give the image a sense of concentration. The long dress of gilt bronze is decorated with ornament and falls in soft vertical folds. The face and hands are made of pale ivory, contrasting with the warm tone of the metal. The marble base completes the combination of materials. Created around 1910, the work reflects the interest of early-20th-century European decorative sculpture in musical subjects and female performers.
