The Violinist has an intimate character and a more compact sculptural arrangement. The seated young woman bends towards the violin, holding the instrument at her shoulder; the position of her arms and the inclination of her head focus attention on the act of playing. The long bronze dress conceals the contours of the body and falls in large, heavy folds, especially pronounced in the lower part. Cold painting brings out details of the costume and nuances in the modelling of the metal. The head, neck, arms and legs are made of pale ivory; the same material is used for the violin and bow. This choice gives the musical attributes particular sculptural clarity. The model was produced around 1925 by the Berlin firm Rosenthal & Maeder, whose mark is preserved on the pedestal.
