The dancer is shown in the midst of a stage performance. The turn of the head and the arm extended to the side give the pose a clear rhythm, while the forward leg preserves the sense of a step. The gilded bronze dress is modelled with restraint: it follows the contours of the body above and falls into larger draperies below, enlivening the metal surface. The gilding gives the costume a warm shimmer, against which the pale bone of the face, arms and legs stands out clearly. A relief bronze ground forms an intermediate tier between the statuette and the smooth marble. The pedestal, a simple geometric form with a semicircular end, reinforces the laconic character of the work’s presentation.
