The girl is shown playing the flute; the position of the instrument and her measured step determine the character of the statuette. The long bronze dress gently follows the torso and falls more freely below, where the drapery becomes fuller. Polychrome painting brings out details of the costume and gives its surface a range of tones. The pale bone of the head, arms and legs differs from the bronze in its smoothness and more restrained texture. A relief bronze ground follows the outline of the profiled onyx pedestal. Its elongated rectangular form, terminating in a semicircle, accords with the calm, balanced character of the work.
