The sculptural composition depicts the Egyptian queen Cleopatra half-reclining on a couch, dressed in a stylized Oriental costume and a nemes headdress. The bed is covered with a patterned bronze bedspread. The queen's right hand is thrown behind her head, while her left is bent at the elbow and rests on the headboard. The figure reposes on a stepped base made of green onyx and veined marble. Exposed areas of the body are executed in ivory, while the clothing, headdress, and bracelets are made of patinated and gilded bronze.
