On a circular base with a smooth, profiled plinth and a textured terrain representing rocky ground with boulders, stands the full-length figure of an elderly warrior – a Cossack with thick mustache and sideburns. He is dressed in a papakha hat and a long cherkeska coat with gazyry (cartridge slots), cinched by a narrow belt with a kindjal (dagger). He is depicted slightly bent forwards, slowly drawing a shashka (saber) from the scabbard.
The sculpture is dedicated to the key characters of the Caucasian War of 1817–1864. It forms a pair with the figure "Circassian spotting an enemy."
